JERSEY CITY, NJ (Feb 23, 2020)
Head Coach of the men's and women's Varsity Indoor Soccer program, Murphy Wiredu, was honoured with an Athletic Hall of Fame induction at his alma mater Saint Peter's University yesterday in Jersey City, NJ. The 36th annual event was held to recognize athletes and teams whom brought distinction, honour and excellence to the University. Wiredu's 2007-08 Saint Peter's men's soccer team was inducted for their outstanding NCAA season that year. Finishing 15-6-1 overall and 6-2-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play during the season, the team earned themselves a shot at the NCAA Championship Game which they unfortunately fell short on capturing against Virginia.

When the season concluded, Wiredu was awarded with the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year award for his outstanding personal season, leading the MAAC with 14 season goals. Named to the MAAC All-Rookie team (2004), All-MAAC first team (2007) and second team (2006), Wiredu ranks third in program history in career shots (166), fourth in goals (36) and sixth in points (87). Helping the team to a 41-29-2 overall mark and a 21-10-5 record in league play in his career, he scored a goal in the MAAC Semifinals in 2006 to propel Saint Peter's to the first of two MAAC title games in his career.
Wiredu continued his soccer career with the Ottawa Fury of the Premier Development League and then later with the Toronto Lynx, where he was awarded the club's Best Offensive Player award. The following year he signed with Italia Shooters for the 2008 CSL season. Lastly, in 2009 he went abroad to Singapore to play with the Sengkang Punggol FC in the S.League before his contract was released in 2010.

Now sporting purple and gold, Wiredu wears the Golden Hawk while coaching both our men's and women's OCAA indoor soccer programs. Returning for his 4th year with the men's team and 2nd year with the women's, Wiredu is gearing his teams up for their Regional Championship at Redeemer University next Monday, March 2nd. Pending the tournament results, athletes will fight for the chance to compete for a provincial title on March 13th-14th at the OCAA Provincial Championships, held back at Redeemer University again.
