What Varsity sports do you have?

How do you contact the coach?

When are open try outs?
 
Open tryouts vary depend on the team you are trying out for.  The dates get posted on our website, in the summer months.  Depending on the sport open tryouts could take place in August or September. 

Are varsity sports
 on the Waterloo Campus available to Brantford Campus students?
 
Yes they are but if you are interested in playing a varsity sport in Waterloo and have not yet been in contact with the coach you can fill out a recruitment form found on our website.  This form can be found under the sport you are interested in playing.  
You are required to have your own transportation to and from the Waterloo campus for team practices, games or other team commitments.  If you are on a Waterloo team you will be part of the OUA/USports and will then not be able to be part of Brantford varsity in the same year as it is part of the OCAA. 

 Extramural Sport

What is extramural sports?
Extramurals are a recreational league with Ontario College Recreation (OCR) within the OCAA.  These teams still require tryouts and will compete with other OCAA institutions at OCR tournaments throughout the year.  The teams have tryouts at the beginning of the fall term and will play at least 3 tournaments through the academic year.  Practices and commitment are similar to varsity and is an additional fee.

When are tryouts? 
Tryout dates are TBA later in September.

Do I have to have any experience within the sport in order to play? 
Extramural teams are recreational teams but they are still quite competitive. Previous experience is recommended but not always necessary. We always encourage you to just come out to a tryout and see if it is a good fit for you!

Laurier Brantford YMCA Facility

Is access to the Laurier Brantford YMCA facility included in tuition? / What does the access include? 
Yes. A membership to the LBYMCA facility is included as part of the fees you pay in tuition. This facility is owned in partnership with Laurier Brantford Athletics and Brantford YMCA. Your membership will include access to the fitness centre, drop-in gymnasium times, fitness classes, AquaFit, pool or lane swim, changerooms and LBYMCA programs like adult swim lessons. 

Intramurals

How do you register for intramurals? / When does registration open? 
Registration for intramurals and all of our additional program can be done online  through the shop tab. If you are a new user, you must create an account to check out. For intramurals you can register as a team or a free agent. A refundable bond deposit is required in addition to your registration fee. If you register as a free agent you are registering as an individual and will be placed on a team when registration closes. 
Registration opens at the start of each semester.  

Sport Clubs

What's the difference between varsity and club sports? 
Club Sports are student lead clubs that, with some department support, operate teams that compete at varying levels of competition or operate recreational sport opportunities for WLU students.

Employment Opportunities

How/when do you apply to student jobs?
Student jobs
 are listed online through Navigator. The login is your student number and LORIS password. Postings for jobs usually go up in January. Student Leader positions close late February and fall positions close the beginning of March.  

Do you hire first year students?
 
Yes. While most leadership roles are hired at the end of the winter term for the coming Fall, some positions hire in late August and throughout the fall/winter as required. We offer many job opportunities for first year students within our LBYMCA facility staff positions.  These positions are available for all students throughout the year as positions become available.  Facility positions will be posted on Navigator and on the LBYMCA site
