Match Procedures

  • Please be in the gym and ready to participate at least 10 minutes before your first game.
    • If your team is not on the court and ready to play by 5 minutes after your start time, it is an automatic forfeit against you for the entire game.
    • A 24-hour notice is a requirement if your team will be missing from the game(s).
    • Without any notice your team will face a forfeit, and the opposing team will win the match.
  • Games will consist of two, 20-minute run time halves with a 5-minute halftime
  • Default games will result in a score of 3-0
  • If both teams default, it will result in a score of 0-0

Rules

  • The start of the match, after a goal, and the start of the second half will begin with a kickoff
    • You cannot score a goal directly off of kickoffs
    • All players must remain on their own half before the ball is kicked.
    • The ball must be stationary in the center
    • Players must wait until the referee blows the whistle to start the play
    • After the kick, the kicker must wait until the ball has made contact with another player first before contacting it again
  • If the referee is required to stop play in the middle of a period, a drop ball method will be used to restart play
  • Goal or corner kicks are rewarded if the ball hits the basketball net
  • Indirect free kicks are rewarded if:
    • The ball hits the ceiling – the free kick will be from where the ball hit the ceiling
    • A goalkeeper handles the ball outside of the penalty area (the area within the three-point line will be considered the penalty area/goalie’s box)
    • A goalkeeper picks up the ball that has been passed directly from a teammate. If this occurs within the penalty area, the indirect free kick will be rewarded on the line of the penalty area closest to the infringement
  • Indirect free kicks will be taken at the location of the offence. Players must provide 5 yards of space in order to take the kick. If space is not provided, the free kick will be retaken
  • Indirect free kicks must touch two players before it is considered in play
  • If the ball goes into the net directly off a free kick (without touching a player) the defending team is awarded possession and the goal does not count
  • Penalty kicks are awarded when an offence would award an indirect free kick inside the penalty area and goals may be scored during penalty kicks
    • Penalty kicks are taken from the top of the basketball three-point line
    • During a penalty kick the goalkeeper must stay on their line
    • All other players must wait at half until the ball is kicked
  • Kick-ins are rewarded if the ball goes out of bounds
  • Goalkeepers may not drop kick the ball
  • Goalkeepers may throw the ball, but cannot throw it past the halfway line—goalies may pass the ball on the ground past the halfway line
  • Goalkeepers cannot pick up the ball if it has been passed directly by a teammate
  • There are no throw-ins or offsides
  • No slide tackles, it will be the referee’s discretion to whether a slide tackle has been made
  • Intentional handballs (except for goalkeepers in their box) result in a three-minute penalty and the team will play with one less player on the court
